Oarfish1920
The Oarfish contains the world's longest fish species, measuring up to 17m long.

There are four known species, from two genera, Agrostichthys and Regalecus. These long fish are rarely seen, as they are deep-sea fish, and are named for their elongated body. There long body has a crest-like fin, and when they are ill or dying, they linger at the surface, which probably influenced early stories of serpents.

It is hard to know the distribution of the Oarfish, as they are rarely washed ashore and found, and encounters with live animals are extremly rare. These species appear to be solitary, and can be found up to depths of 1,000m deep. An oarfish was supposibly caught in Skinningrove, in the UK, in 2003......
